What to do in case of a jellyfish sting?
Teagmháil le Medusa causes painful stinging lesions (more or less depending on the species), but rarely serious except in people with allergies.
Cad atá le déanamh :
– Keep calm
– Rinse with sea water if possible hot without rubbing, to take off the tentacles
– Apply hot sand then remove it with a rigid cardboard such as a postcard or a bank card
– Rinse again
– Disinfect the wound with an antiseptic
– Apply an anti-inflammatory ointment on the wound
– Contact the emergency services if the limb swells, you feel a respiratory problem or general pain
What not to NOT TO DO :
– Rinse with fresh water, as it bursts the stinging cells, releasing even more venom.
– Aspirate the venom
– Touch the dead jellyfish
– Apply a tourniquet
– Rub or scratch
– Seek to bleed the wound
